THE URBAN HARVEST
The Urban Harvest reimagines high-density living through a sustainable, circular approach that integrates residential, commercial, and communal spaces into a self-sustaining vertical village. Located on the Fitzroy Gasworks site, the project introduces the waste-to-table concept into everyday residential life—recycling organic waste on-site to support food production through vertical farming, composting systems, and shared green infrastructure. Designed for environmentally conscious residents—particularly green activists seeking to lead low-impact lifestyles—the project creates a model where sustainability and community go hand in hand. A key component is its partnership with a neighbouring school to host workshops and educational programs, engaging both students and the wider public in sustainable practices.
At ground level, The Urban Harvest features commercial spaces, zero-waste restaurants, retail shops, and accessible public parks, creating an active interface between residents and the broader neighbourhood. Above, a mix of affordable and private residential units is interwoven with communal spaces and the vertical farm, offering access to fresh food and shared resources.
While retaining elements of the site’s industrial heritage, the design fosters resilience, connectivity, and a deeper relationship with nature—positioning The Urban Harvest as a forward-thinking prototype for sustainable urban living.
